Long Term Development, Hamomi Childrens Centre - An NGO Dedicated to Supporting a Primary School for Street Kids in Nairobi Kenya

Developing the Land

Through education and social business, Hamomi plans to become a self-sustainable organization. We will offer students a first-rate education while teaching them income-generating skills. A project of this caliber will develop students with classroom and work experience, who will have a competitive advantage in the world. However, a prerequisite to all of this, is to own land.

As land owners, the first stage of development will concentrate on building a sturdy, affordable, green educational facility. From a secure gate to water catchments to solar power, all aspects of this construction will focus on creating a safe, nurturing, and energy efficient facility that promotes education while lowering operating costs.

The second stage of land development will focus on creating social businesses. We will begin by starting a farm to produce our own vegetables, milk and meat. We will save $720 a  month and earn money from selling the extra goods. Once this project has proved successful, we will move on to other businesses such as selling water and brick-making. By incorporating the students in every stage of these projects, they will learn how to establish, run, and manage a business.

All of the above is only possible through land ownership. With your financial support you can help make this vision a reality.

Buying Land

Throughout the world "land ownership" means more than just owning a piece of property containing dirt and trees. It is an opportunity to develop your future.

We at Hamomi understand the power of land ownership. As renters, we are constrained by the temperament of our landlord, by the size of the plot we can afford to rent, and by the inability to develop Hamomi without increasing our rent or being kicked off our land.

With these constraints in place, we will never become the organization we intend to become. We will remain limited in our ability to offer students a wide range of services and opportunities that will ultimately lead them to change their social and economic condition. In addition, our chances of developing into a sustainable and self-sufficient organization will remain unlikely.

Land ownership means control of our future. It promises an opportunity to create better facilities and expanded educational opportunities for our students. It is our top long-term priority and the key to Hamomi's long-term success.

Looking at prices based on size and location, we estimate that land will cost $90,000. Infrastructural developments in Kenya are relatively inexpensive. As we near this stage, we will have a better estimate of the complete costs. To ensure the professional and legitimate purchase of land in Nairobi, we  will hire experienced lawyers, accountants and aid workers to guide us during the transaction.
